for a play kitchen!!
Oh, yes, I've been waiting for this for a loooong time! Mary is very, very domestic - she loves cleaning, sewing, and watching Mama cook - so I know she's going to love her new kitchen! We ordered it from Wal-Mart, free shipping with site-to-store, so it should be available for pick-up in two weeks or so. I did a lot of research before we decided on this one (actually, Stephen found it online), and it's received tons of great reviews. We are sooooo excited for it to come in! I've been wanting to get a play kitchen for a while, but wasn't sure if Mary would be ready for it. After talking with other moms of toddlers and bigger kids, they all assured me that the time is NOW! I'm also excited about Mary (and Anna) having the kitchen because she really needs to learn how to play independently; Mama can't (and shouldn't) be at her beck and call anymore with a new baby in the house. And the kitchen will promote pretend play, which helps her imagination. This is a total win-win situation!
We've decided to go with only wooden and cloth play food and accessories (the pots and pans above are wooden). I've never liked plastic toys very much, and we want toys that will be durable and last long enough for Anna to play with, too. Melissa and Doug and Haba make excellent play food that fit our criteria. Snooty? Nope, just want to protect our investment by buying play food that will endure two energetic little girls.
Really, how cute is this! All wooden pieces, held together by velcro, ready for Mary and Anna to cut and serve!
I just can't resist this cloth fried egg! It's made from Haba and comes in a tin egg shell. The fried egg pops out when you open the tin. Soooo cute!
Yes, these Melissa and Doug pantry products are all wooden! These will look so good in the shelves of the new kitchen!
There are many more play food options, but I think we're going to start with these and add more later (Mary's birthday is in April, so she'll certainly be getting the Melissa and Doug wooden birthday cake). I'll post some pictures (of course!) when it's all up and operational. Can't wait!

I've actually seen this kitchen in person! Great choice!! I know that you will all love it! Can't wait for it to come in!
Looks like fun!! Wooden is the best! I would gladly trade our plastic in. Daddy and Mommy did good!!
Looks beautiful!!! Our girls need this. Brian gave them one that his dad built, and thats special and all, but it's brown (yuck!) and very, um, "utilitarian looking." oh well. Congrats on the pretty shiny new kitchen!!
looks great!!! I just know the girls will love it!!
My girls use (used) the one that my dad made for my sister. She never had any daughters and doesn't have and granddaughters yet, so we have it. It isn't as pretty, but Papa made it, so that works for us. This one is quite lovely!
