Soapmaking - Part One

We love doing fun things together as a family, so we decided to give soapmaking a try! We found a WONDERFUL online tutorial that walked us through the process step-by-step. We made goat milk soap with oatmeal last Saturday while Mary took a nap. Here are some pictures:

Stephen and his dad (the ultimate handy-man) are making our wooden soap mold and mitre box in our back yard. You can see Mary standing inside the storm door. It was a beautiful day to be outside; I know the guys enjoyed it.

Stephen is mixing the lye and water.

I'm measuring the olive oil on the scale in our kitchen.
We used organic palm oil, coconut oil, olive oil, powdered goat's milk, oats, lye, and water.

Stephen is using the stick blender to mix up the oil and lye mixtures (it's becoming soap now).
After this step, the soap gets poured into the mold to set for 24-48 hours.

Check out the above post for the finished results.
