Our Labor Day festivities began Sunday night with a get-together with our 8 a.m. Sunday School class. We met at one of the member's house and watched the presidential debate at Saddleback Church (it was a tape). Our teacher stopped the tape in between candidates, and we discussed the answers and how they fit with our Biblical worldview. It was very interesting, and I hope we do this again with the upcoming debates. Stephen and I don't have a t.v. set in our home (by choice), so this was the first time we got to see the debate at Saddleback. Mary did quite well, for a while. She was the smallest child in attendance (though there were many), and she got passed around a little bit (which gave my arms a needed break). We just started going back to our 8 a.m. class again last week (that's us last Sunday in the picture; I'm smiling enough for both of us); we really missed the excellent teaching. Mary goes into the nursery at 8 a.m., then I leave class early to nurse her before our next Sunday School class at 9:30 a.m. (this is the class taught by her pediatrician). I keep her with me for our second class, and then we go to the 11 a.m. worship service. After the singing (which is usually the first 20 minutes), I take her back to the nursery so Stephen and I can listen to the sermon together. When Mary is big (and mature) enough to sit still and listen, we'll have her stay with us for everything (we're imagining that will start around age 3 or 4). Our Labor Day fun continuted yesterday with a trip to the new Barnes & Noble store at
Bridge Street Town Centre (a new fancy, upscale outside shopping center that reminds me of Disneyland - they offer
gondola rides!). This was the first time I really looked at children's books for Mary (I've been looking at them online at Amazon where I can read the customer reviews, but never actually in a store). There are SO many great children's books out there; I can't wait to put some new ones in her bookshelf! After browsing the bookstore and walking around Bridge Street, we drove to our friends' home for a cook-out.

First we played Trivial Pursuit and then they started cooking. We all played outside while the burgers were being fired up. Stephen and I took turns pushing Mary in her stroller up and down the street, while the two little boys who were also at the cook-out fought over who got to help push! It was so cute! Both of the boys are under two years old, and they love to be helpers. Mary had a great time! She got fussy around 7 p.m., which is when we usually start putting her down for bed, so we came home. Now it's Tuesday morning and everything goes back to normal. We loved having Daddy home yesterday, and we're sure going to miss him today (sniffle, sniffle).
