Our First Petting Zoo

This morning we went to Old MacDonald's Petting Zoo with some great friends. We all had such a good time, and it was nice to do something summer-y (I know that's not a word, but I'm not a high school English teacher anymore, so I can be creative).

There were many animals, but Mary wasn't too interested. I think this was one of two or three that got her attention. I thought Mary would be all about the animals (she told me last night that she was going to kiss the animals), but she was much more interested in putting kernels of corn and pine needles into the red plastic cup she found. She liked the rocks, too. We had to coax her into getting up off the ground to look at all the fun animals.

Yes, here she is petting a cute little bunny, but it lasted only for a brief moment. Those pine needles she's standing on took center stage immediately after I snapped this picture.

She brought her kitty cat into the zoo. She's so cute in pig tails!

Does anyone know what animal this is?? Me, either! No clue! It looks like a swan, but can swans do that?

Anna was with us, too, of course, but I was wearing her so she didn't make it into any of the pictures I took. Anna had a good time, too, and just got a little ornery around lunch time. We had a great picnic lunch at the zoo, and Mary had a blast playing with her red plastic cup. Old MacDonald's is a fantastic place to let the kids run around and play, but sadly the place is closing in August. The owners have been trying to sell the place for a year now, with no takers, and are going to shut it down at the end of the summer. They're selling off their animals, so if you're interested in a cute little goat, he's only $75 (no clue if that's a good deal or not). However, if you live in town and have kids, take advantage of the petting zoo sometime before August. It's about a 40 minute drive from South Huntsville (it's past Gurley in Woodville), but the drive is so scenic you probably won't even notice that it's that long. Sooooo much fun!

We're leaving Saturday to spend Memorial Day weekend with my family in Mississippi. I should have lots of great photos of our trip to post sometime next week. Nothing new to tell about the house, except we've got moving boxes and have started packing. Our closing date and time were confirmed by both realtors and the law office yesterday, so it looks like a done-deal. Can't wait!

Can you believe it's already Wednesday?! Love it!

First I just have to say how cute Mary's piggy tales are!
I actually drove past there last week and made a mental note to take the kids there. I guess I will have to go soon!

BTW I think that animal looks like White Peacock. I just looked it up and found this on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:White_peacock.jpg
