- get a family doctor (a real one with his own office and everything; no more going to the clinic down the street)
- make out a will (thanks, Dave Ramsey and US Legal Forms)
- start going to the dentist twice a year
- start going to the eye doctor once a year
- get an internet filter (BSafe Online has taken care of all those yucky ads)
- back up all your computer files (Carbonite)
Backing up all our files has tied up our computer for a while, which is the reason we haven't posted lately. So, now you can clearly see how our becoming adults has hindered our blogging.
I've got a great picture of Mary that I'll post when Carbonite is done. She played with spoons and turned-over bowls for the first time yesterday. Picture a drum set. She loved it! I made cookies and she made music. Mary still only has one tooth, and it's standing straight and tall. Very noticable and very cute. She said "ma-ma" yesterday for the second time in her life, but she was mad and said it in the heat of the moment while looking at the bookshelf. Oh well...
We just got back from visiting our adopted grandmother in the nursing home. She just found out that her family is going to leave her in there permanently. She had hoped to get strength back in her legs and return home soon. She's pretty upset about it, understandably. It just makes me think of how temporary everything really is. I'm sure Grandma Turner kept a very nice home not too long ago, but now she'll never see it again. I'm sure she filled her home with wonderful things that brought her joy, but now all that doesn't matter. Things can't really bring joy, anyway. Joy for me is found in my salvation, the true grace of God, that can never be taken away no matter how old or ill I become. Only Jesus can bring real lasting joy, and Grandma Turner knows that; she's just still processing her new permanent residence I think. Mary loves visiting Grandma Turner, and Grandma Turner loves holding Mary. It's sweet to watch them interact. Mary is just now taking notice of her wheelchair. It's going to be fun watching Mary grow up visiting her adopted grandma.
No crawling yet, but LOTS of rolling around.
New foods: kale (mixed into her brown rice), kiwi (soooo cute to watch her pucker up from the tartness), applesauce with apricots (the first food not homemade, but it's still organic). Tomorrow we're buying broccoli, spinach, and hopefully papaya (I've got to check my food book, but I think that's right).
Mary has her 9-month check-up next week, so I'll certainly let you know all the good stuff (weight, etc.). I'm pretty sure she's over 20 pounds right now; I call her my little potato sack.
That's about it for the updates. I'll try to get on here more regularly and let you know how we're doing. I've also got some great little videos of Mary (of course) playing peek-a-boo (her favorite game), but I have to wait until Carbonite is finished before uploading them. Stay tuned!
